Deonne’s Story

I was first introduced to essential oils in about 1993 by an amazing massage therapist. I would share her name and number, but then she’d inundated with phone calls and I’d never get one of her coveted openings. I digress…. My massage therapist has definitely been blessed with a healing gift and is intuitive and trusts that intuition. I loved the way I felt after her massages – and not to discount her skills because really, she is amazing, but I know part of the magic was in the essential oils. Thus I began my journey to find out how essential oils could improve my life. Based on a recommendation made by my massage therapist, I began regular visits to a foot zoner who also used essential oils. Again, I know after she worked her voodoo magic on my feet, I felt infinitely better, but wondered how much was the oil verses the foot zoning. Even my pedicurist used oils during my pedicure and I remember asking her, “How do you know so much about essential oils? Do you have a book you’d recommend I get?” (If it sounds like I have a pampered life – I do. I’m blessed and I know it.) She responded, “I’ve just picked it up, here and there.” Not tremendously helpful. So, the journey to the land of essential oil knowledge was hit and miss, with more missing than hitting.

Fast forward to August 2011. I received an email from Carrie inviting me to an essential oil class. Just to reminisce, I went to my email to reread her invite. It went something like this:

Hi Deonne,

I just wanted to drop you a note and let you know that I am having two essential oils classes at my house this month.  You and I seem to have a lot of the same interests so I thought I would throw out an invitation.  You can choose whatever date works better for you. (Dates & times listed.) We will be talking about keeping your family healthy and how to treat existing ailments using essential oils.  If you already own essential oils and want to learn how to use them or if you are interested in alternative medicine this is your chance to learn without sales pressure.  Of course I would love to see you too.

That quick little email changed my life and world – for the better. Finally, I found a resource to help me prioritize my essential oil purchases – Modern Essentials: A Contemporary Guide to the Therapeutic Use of Essential Oils. The day after Carrie’s class I tracked down the gal who taught the class and bribed her into selling me her book so I could put together my shopping list (we actually set up a clandestine meeting at the fairgrounds – felt like a deal going down for sure). Of course I wanted to order by the middle of the month to get my bonus oil, so I headed up to Carrie’s house at 8:00 on the 15th to have her help me get my order processed correctly. And as they say, the rest is history.

I’m so thankful for the opportunity to share dōTERRA essential oils with my family and friends. I’ve seen their lives dramatically improve with the inclusion of essential oils in their daily routine. It doesn’t have to be scary, just take baby steps. Try one or two oils and after you’re comfortable with that routine, venture out a little bit more. You’ll find that your intuition kicks in and as long as you’re willing to trust yourself and listen, you can share your healing gifts with others too.
